Amusan wins again, Brume second at Hungary meet

World record holder, Tobi Amusan, recorded her second consecutive victory in three days after winning the women’s 100m hurdles at the Gyulai István Memorial in Hungary with a time of 12.35secs to beat America’s Nia Ali in second with a time of 12.41secs.
Alaysha Johnson and Tia Jones of the USA were third and fourth in 12.50 and 12.51secs respectively.
Amusan’s performance in Hungary comes after she ran a new season’s best and also matched the meeting record at the Silesia Diamond League meeting on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Commonwealth gold medallist, Ese Brume, also put up a decent jumping series, finishing second in women’s long jump with a mark of 6.69m. Serbia’s Milica Gardašević won the event with 6.80m.
Chukwuebuka Enekwechi also reached a mark of 20.41m and finished ninth in the men’s shot put.
Amusan, on Sunday, also won the 100m women’s hurdles at the 2023 Silesia Diamond League.
The Nigerian only caught American Kendra Harrison on the line in a thrilling race to set a meet record with 12.34 seconds.
Speaking on the milestone, Amusan said, “It was not easy for me with injuries in my hamstring and my knee. But I trusted in my coach and my work. It’s all about the process. I just won this in a smooth style, I was just running. Honestly, I had no idea that I won when I crossed the finish line.”
As she builds up to her title defence at the World Championships, which hold in Budapest, Hungary from August 19 to 27, she is also on course for another Diamond League crown as she currently leads with 23 points ahead of Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico with 16 points.
The Diamond League continues Friday in Monaco, France.
