Amadou Supporters in Niger Wave Russia’s Flag, Praise Putin, Attack French Embassy
Supporters of Colonel-Major Amadou Abdramane in Niger are said to have attacked France’s Embassy in Niamey, the country’s capital.
Sources in the West African nation have it that supporters of the junta marched through the streets of Niamey, waving Russian flags and chanting the name of Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, and denouncing former colonial power, France.
It was gathered that the move is a protest against the intervention of the French government in Niger Republic.
The demonstrators smashed windows at the French embassy and set a perimeter door on fire, although they did not breach the walls of the embassy premises.
According to NBC, they were reported to have filled the Boulevard de la Republique and several other main thoroughfares in the capital, some running, others riding motorcycles, and many packed into vehicles.
They barricaded cars and caused heavy gridlock on streets, while some shouted and waved flags.
