Niger Junta To Handover Power To Civilian Government, Form New Constitution

Niger’s new military ruler said Saturday a transition of power would not go beyond three years, and warned that any attack on the country would not be easy for those involved.
“Our ambition is not to confiscate power,” General Abdourahamane Tiani said in a televised address, adding that an attack on Niger would not be “a walk in the park”.
His warning came as a delegation of ECOWAS met with him and his team for about 90 minutes.
The delegation led by Former Nigerian Military Head of State, Gen Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd), also met with ousted Niger President, Bazoun.
Speaking with journalists after the meeting, Abdulsalami said, “We met him and heard his side of the story. He told us what was done to him and the challenges he is facing. We will communicate this to ECOWAS leaders. Doors for talks are now open for a lasting solution.”
