Northern senators lament over worsen insecurity in the region
Senators from the northern part of Nigeria have expressed concerns over the increasing level of insecurity across their geopolitical zones.
Lamenting the incessant killings and attacks in the region, the Senate chief whip, Senator Ali Ndume, noted that the issue was out of hand as bandits were taking over things across the north.
According to Ndume: “Insecurity is on the rise these days. You see what happened in Niger state, where over 20 soldiers were killed. Jos is also on fire now, with killings here and there.
“Borno State has also been experiencing a lot of attacks by insurgents; even my local government is not spared.”
The lawmaker further lamented that when the bandits unleashed terror on the people, soldiers had to run away and leave them and only come back after normalcy was returned.
Other lawmakers like senators Abdulaziz Yari, Aliero Adamu, Mohammed Monguno, Kawu Abdurrahman, Samaila Kaila, Aliyu Bilbis, Sani Musa, Aminu Tambuwal, and also lamented killings and banditry in the region, particularly in Zamfara state.
Earlier, Senator Yari condemned the killings and banditry attacks in five local governments in Zamfara state, Maru, Bubgudu, Bukuyum, Anka, and Maradun.
The former Zamfara governor lamented that the state is surrounded by two major forests Sugugu and Rugu which provide adequate cover for the bandits, “making Zamfara state more vulnerable to such attacks than any other state in Northern Nigeria.”
He also appealed to the Federal Government to deploy modern technology like drones to monitor the operations of the bandits.
