Since I am a Christian and Ododo is not, Adeyemi asserts that no Christian has ever been in power in Kogi

The APC Kogi governorship candidate Smart Adeyemi disclosed during an interview with AIT News that he is not of the same faith as Ahmed Ododo, pointing out that he is a Christian and that a Christian has never been the governor of Kogi state. Because he thinks that religion is secondary, he claimed that he has made more contributions to Islam than any other Muslim in his state
In addition, Smart Adeyemi disclosed that he sends Muslims to Mecca on his dime and requests that they pray for him when they arrive. But more than any other candidate, he claimed, he had what it takes to run his state.
According to him, “I ask you to invite Ododo to come and join me in a live television debate; charge us; I’ll pay; and let us weigh who has the knowledge to govern. I’m a three-time senator; I was a former national chairman of NUJ; I’ve served in so many committees; I’ve performed well in the Senate; and I’m good enough to be governor. The only difference will be that maybe I’m not from his tribe, and the worst aspect, which I don’t want to think about, is that maybe I’m not of the same religion as him.”
“I’m a Christian, but let me tell you, no Christian has ever governed Kogi, but that’s secondary. I’ve contributed to Islam more than many Muslims in my state. I’ve sponsored not less than 300 Muslims to Mecca. So people pray for me in Mecca. When they’re going, I give them support to pray for me in Mecca.”
