An Area Court at Center-Igboro, Ilorin, Kwara State, has dissolved the wedlock between a couple, Majeed Suleiman and Ganiyat Suleiman on the request of the husband, who accused his wife of adultery.
The presiding judge, AbdulKadir Ahmed stated that having heard both parties, the court noticed that the petitioner was already frustrated while the respondent showed no sign of remorse.
Ahmed explained that divorce is not something you hurriedly conclude on. But in a situation whereby the petitioner could no longer tolerate the respondent and kept insisting on divorce, then it should be considered.
According Tracknews Media , the judge therefore dissolved the marriage between the petitioner and the respondent, and ordered the respondent to observe her three months Iddah period in her matrimonial home.
He also ruled that a divorce certificate should not be issued to the respondent until she observed all the necessary steps of the divorce while the petitioner should continue to perform his responsibility towards her.
Earlier, the petitioner told the court that his wife had been involved in an extramarital affair for over seven years, adding that he could no longer tolerate her.
“I am in court today because I don’t want to take law into my hands.
“I can no longer tolerate my wife’s immoral act. She’s a bad example to our children,” he said.
The respondent however, said that she was still interested in their relationship and insisted on remaining with their children in her matrimonial home.
She stated that she tried to settle the issue with her husband, but that he bluntly refused.
She added that she contacted his relatives but that he still stood on his word.
