Breaking: 26 aspiring lawmakers defect from APC to APM in Ogun
– The ruling APC has lost no fewer than 26 aspirants for the Ogun state House of Assembly to the APM
– Defections have been on the rise again in the country as the 2019 general elections draw nearer
– Among the defectors were Lamidi Olatunji and two serving commissioners in the state, Dayo Adeneye and Modupe Mujota
As Nigerians prepare for the 2019 general elections, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun state has lost no fewer than 26 aspirants of the state House of Assembly to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
The defectors were aggrieved aspirants who alleged that the mandate given to them during the October 7 legislative primary of the APC was stolen by the national leadership of the ruling party, Daily Trust reports.
TRACKNEWS.NG gathers that one of the defectors, Lamidi Olatunji, said they “have come to inevitable conclusion to actualise their ambitions in APM.”
He said: “We also wish to acknowledge the fatherly role of President Muhammadu Buhari in seeking to sustain the tenets of democracy, fairness and equity in the resolution of the crisis in Ogun APC.
“We regret that Mr President’s efforts were frustrated by the forces that are hellbent in taking the southwest back to the dark age of slavery where unelected kingpins direct the affairs of the people.”
Among the defectors were two serving commissioners, Dayo Adeneye (information and strategy) and Modupe Mujota (education, science and technology).
Meanwhile, TRACKNEWS.NG previously reported that the APC member in the House of Representatives, Musa Soba, who defected from the party on Wednesday, October 24, accused the APC of deceiving and defrauding him.
The lawmaker representing Soba constituency of Kaduna state was one of the over 70 aggrieved APC lawmakers that protested their loss of return ticket but lost at the appeal panel of the ruling party.
