Pressure mounts on President Tinubu to reinstate Betta Edu as minister of humanitarian affairs

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is reportedly under immense pressure to reinstate Betta Edu as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management.

This comes after a leaked memo showed that Edu might have been acting on instructions from the Chief of Staff to the president, Femi Gbajabiamila, when she breached civil service rules.

Also of concern is the recent disasters in the country, which some say were not adequately managed due to the absence of a minister in the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Poverty Alleviation.

Edu, a former commissioner of health in Cross River state, used to manage the ministry until her suspension.

The Arewa United Front, a prominent socio-political group, has appealed to the president to reinstate Edu, citing her unblemished record and dedication to her duties.

The group said Edu, suspended amidst investigations, has not violated any Nigerian laws.

He emphasized her vital role in spearheading the National Social Intervention Programme, which he said has positively impacted Nigerians across regions.
