Abia State Workers Laud Governor Otti for Timely Salary Payments, Express Satisfaction
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Abia State has extended commendation to Governor Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, for his remarkable achievements since assuming office, particularly his commitment to ensuring the prompt payment of workers’ salaries by the 28th of every month.
The accolades were showered on Governor Otti during a visit by the newly elected executives of the Abia NLC, led by Chairman Comrade Ogbonnaya Okoro, earlier this week.
Comrade Okoro expressed satisfaction with the positive changes initiated by Governor Otti’s administration, emphasizing that the timely payment of salaries has significantly alleviated the financial burdens faced by workers in the state.
He applauded Governor Otti for fulfilling his promise to prioritize the welfare of workers, contrasting the present administration’s approach with the past government’s neglect, which often resulted in months of salary arrears.

In his response, Governor Otti assured the NLC delegation of his administration’s unwavering commitment to addressing the welfare concerns of workers in Abia State. He disclosed plans to review the recently approved N35,000 minimum wage for workers, underscoring his administration’s determination to implement it for the benefit of employees.
Governor Otti also acknowledged the existence of salary arrears owed to workers by previous administrations, affirming his administration’s resolve to settle these outstanding debts. He disclosed ongoing efforts to collaborate with relevant stakeholders, including the Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP), to devise strategies for clearing pension arrears in the state.
Additionally, Governor Otti pledged to combat fraudulent practices within the civil service, urging the NLC to collaborate in identifying individuals engaged in salary padding and other illicit activities detrimental to the state’s finances.
