Thiago Silva confirms Chelsea exit, pens farewell message to fans
Veteran Brazilian defender Thiago Silva has announced plans to leave Chelsea at the end of the 2023/24 season.
In a heartfelt message shared on Chelsea’s website, Silva expressed his gratitude and deep connection to Chelsea after his four-year stint at Stamford Bridge
Arriving on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in August 2020, Silva quickly became a pivotal figure in Chelsea’s defense, amassing 151 appearances across all competitions and 34 appearances in all competitions this season.

During his tenure, the Brazilian star played a crucial role in the club’s success, including triumphs in the Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, and the UEFA Super Cup.
Reflecting on his time at Stamford Bridge, Silva emphasised the significance of Chelsea to him and his family, highlighting his pride in seeing his sons follow in his footsteps by playing for Chelsea’s youth teams. Despite initially planning for a shorter stay, Silva’s connection to the club deepened over the years.
“Chelsea means a lot to me. I came here to only stay for a year and it ended up being four years. Not just for me but for my family, too,” Silva said.
“My sons play for Chelsea so it’s a source of great pride to be a part of the Chelsea family. I hope they can continue their careers here at this victorious club that many players wish to be part of.
“I think in everything I did here over the four years, I always gave my all. But unfortunately, everything has a start, a middle and an end.”
Acknowledging that every journey has its end, Silva bid farewell to Chelsea with immense gratitude, promising to keep the door open for a potential return in a different capacity in the future.
“It’s an indescribable love. I can only say thank you,” he said.
“A dream come true. Not even in my wildest dreams did I imagine that I could achieve such great things and win one of the best professional titles, the Champions League, at one of the biggest clubs in the world.
“Goodbyes are for those that leave and don’t come back. I intend on coming back one day. I hope to leave the door open so that in the near future I can return, albeit in another role here.”
His departure comes amidst a groin injury suffered in Chelsea’s recent 2-2 draw against Aston Villa, raising questions about his fitness to continue playing for Chelsea.
As Silva prepares to depart, Chelsea fans and the club alike are left with fond memories of his contributions on and off the pitch. With Mauricio Pochettino’s side still vying for European qualification and Chelsea aiming to salvage a challenging season, Silva’s departure marks both an end and a new chapter in the club’s journey.
