Security Beefed Up at Kano Emir’s Palace Amid Tension
A heavy security presence, comprising policemen, hunters, and vigilantes, has been noticed at the palace of the Emir of Kano.
Governor Abba Yusuf had on Thursday announced the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi as the Emir of Kano, shortly after signing a bill that abolished the five emirates created in 2019.
The move came amid a legal twist, as a Federal High Court in Kano ordered the state government not to enforce the Emirate Council Repeal Law 2024, which repealed the 2019 version used to oust Sanusi as Emir in 2020.
The amended law restores the old order, effectively invalidating the creation of five emirates.
The developments have created a tense atmosphere in Kano, with security agents keeping a close watch on the palace and its surroundings.
