Former EFCC Chairman Is Dead
Mr. Lamorde died in Egypt, where he had traveled for medical treatment, according to a close associate.
Born on December 20, 1962, in Mubi, Adamawa State, Lamorde joined the Nigerian Police Force in 1986 and retired as a Deputy Inspector General of Police in 2021. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 1984.

Lamorde’s notable career with the EFCC began when the agency was established in 2003, where he served as the pioneer Director of Operations. He briefly took over as Acting Chairman in December 2007 until June 2008 when Farida Waziri was appointed Chairperson. Lamorde returned as Director of Operations in December 2010, replacing Stephen Otitoju.
In November 2011, Lamorde was appointed Acting Chairman of the EFCC following the removal of Farida Waziri by President Goodluck Jonathan. He was confirmed as the substantive Chairman by the Senate on February 15, 2012. Lamorde held this position until November 9, 2015, when President Buhari replaced him with Ibrahim Magu in an acting capacity.
