The midfielder has a €70 million release clause in his contract and it will be interesting to see if Porto are willing to sell him for a more reasonable price.
It is no secret that Liverpool are in desperate need of a quality defensive midfielder and the Argentine could be a superb long-term investment. Liverpool have missed the presence of a quality defensive midfielder since the departure of Fabinho. They will need to replace the Brazilian adequately.
They have looked quite vulnerable defensively and the arrival of a quality defensive midfielder will help shield the back four and break up opposition attacks as well.
