Why EFCC Operative Allegedly Commits Suicide In Abuja
On Monday, an operative of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) tragically committed suicide at his residence in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
According to Punch, the identity of the deceased EFCC official, who was a member of Course 5 of the agency’s academy, has not been disclosed.
EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale informed the press that an investigation is currently underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. The investigation is exploring potential factors such as mental health and family challenges that may have contributed to the operative’s decision to take his life. Oyewale also stated that the Commission will not release the operative’s name until the investigation is concluded.
In related news, the EFCC has established a disciplinary committee to investigate two operatives accused of assaulting a woman during a raid at a hotel in Lagos last Thursday. EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale announced this in a press release on Monday in Abuja, stating that the officers involved were scheduled to appear before the committee on Monday.
The Chairman of the EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, formed the disciplinary team to address the incident, which involved the assault of a female employee of the Regional Hotel in Ojo, Lagos. The officers were captured in a viral video during the early morning operation.
Olukoyede has ordered the arrest of the two officers and directed them to appear before a joint Disciplinary Team comprising the Appointment, Promotion and Disciplinary Committee (APDC) and the Department of Ethics and Integrity. The team will review the case and recommend appropriate disciplinary measures.
The EFCC Chairman emphasized that no stone will be left unturned in holding the officers accountable for their unprofessional conduct.
