Tragedy as gas explosion kills mother, daughter in Ogun

A heartbreaking incident occurred in Ogun on Saturday evening, as a gas explosion took the lives of a mother and her young daughter.
According to eyewitnesses, the tragic event unfolded on Ebute Road in the Ibafo area, when the daughter, aged 7, attempted to light the gas cylinder to prepare dinner. The resulting explosion engulfed the entire house, claiming the lives of the mother, Rafiat Sheriff, 40, and her daughter, Asisat.
Two other girls, including one of the deceased’s children, sustained injuries in the blast and are currently receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.
The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident, with spokesperson Omolola Odutola expressing condolences to the family and urging residents to exercise caution when handling gas appliances.
The community is in mourning as the news of this devastating loss spreads, and investigators are working to determine the cause of the explosion
