Final Year Varsity Student Killed Over N150 In Bayelsa

A final year student of the Niger Delta University, identified as Francis Palowei, has been beaten to death over a disagreement involving payment of N150.

Track News Online investigation revealed that Palowei was beaten to death by a group of boys at a relaxation sand dump at the university town of Amassoma on Tuesday.

Investigation revealed that the student could not pay the N150 which did not go down well either the boys in charge of the spot.

The late student was said to have been attacked and beaten to death by a group of boys during a confrontation over the payment of the N150.

The death of Palaowei, a native of Obrigbene town in Ekeremor Local Government Area of the state has pitched his community against Amassoma where his killers are believed to hail from.

An indigene of Amassoma told the Network that the people of Obrigbene have given a three day-ultimatum to community to handover the killers of Palowei.

The ultimatum is said to have escalated tension in the community as students fear reprisal attacks and eruption of violence in the area.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations of the Bayelsa State Command, Mr Musa Mohammed, confirmed the sad occurrence.

Mohammed said that the Commissioner of Police has deployed operatives to prevent breakdown of law and order in the area.

He said that has not received information on whether arrests have been made or not.

He said, “The Command is aware of the incident. The CP has deployed police assets to restore peace in the area. For now I have not got updates on arrests. When I get update, I will let you know.”

Track News Online spoke to a senior lecturer of institution who informed on the condition of anonymity that the indication governing council was holding a meeting on the issue.

Meanwhile, some boys believed to be from Ekeremor have embarked on a protest over the death of the students.
