The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has sharply criticized Rabiu Kwankwaso, the national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), for his recent assertion that the PDP is “dead.”

Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State, made the claim during an interview where he also expressed confidence in his own presidential ambitions.

Kwankwaso stated, “I wish to remind you that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is already dead, because we were in the party, since they have gone out of the line, we decided to check out.”

In response, PDP National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba dismissed Kwankwaso’s comments as those of a “very inconsequential politician” who has struggled to manage a party with control over just one state.

Ologunagba criticized Kwankwaso for disregarding the PDP’s significant national presence, which includes 13 state governors, numerous members of the national and state assemblies, and a robust presence across the country’s local government areas and wards.

“It is unfathomable to imagine that a failed and inconsequential politician with only one state would claim that a party that has 13 governors, many senators, and numerous representatives is dead,” Ologunagba said.

He further lamented Kwankwaso’s perceived focus on his own presidential ambitions amidst the current national hardships, including soaring inflation, a plummeting Naira, and rising fuel prices.

Ologunagba added, “It is very unfortunate that at this time of widespread hardship and suffering, the only thing occupying Senator Kwankwaso’s mind is his self-centered pipe dream of becoming President.”

He concluded that the PDP does not intend to engage in debates with Kwankwaso over what he termed a display of self-centeredness and insensitivity. Ologunagba also noted that any political relevance Kwankwaso might claim was achieved during his time with the PDP.
