Car snatching syndicate kills UNIZIK lecturer in Anambra

A lecturer at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Dr. Osita Chinedu, was shot dead on Monday evening in Awka, the capital of Anambra State, by individuals suspected to be part of a car-snatching syndicate.
According to a source near the High Tension area in Aroma, where the incident took place, the gunmen struggled with Dr. Chinedu, demanding that he surrender his car keys before shooting him. It remains unclear whether the assailants made off with his car after the shooting. Reports indicate that the victim died at the scene around 7 PM.
A staff member from UNIZIK alerted colleagues about the incident, stating, “Yes, someone was shot dead along that High Tension road this evening. They are saying that he is a lecturer from UNIZIK, from Nteje. Please, comrades, let’s be safe during this Yuletide. If they come for your car, surrender it; our lives are important.”
“Anyone close to the High Tension area should confirm the news that a UNIZIK lecturer was shot dead last night,” the staff member, who also works at the university, announced to colleagues.
Reacting on the condition of anonymity, another UNIZIK staff member expressed disbelief, saying, “A colleague and fellow sports enthusiast was shot dead last night. This is no longer a joke. We and our children are no longer safe in this state—this is a whole capital city,” the visibly furious lecturer remarked.
As of the time of this report, the Anambra State Police Command, represented by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, had not yet responded to the incident.
