Wike inaugurates Road Project in Abaji, Promises More Development in Satellite Town

ABUJA – The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike has reaffirmed the commitment of the Tinubu administration to delivering infrastructure projects across Abuja, including its satellite towns, as he commissioned a 5km Naharati- River Ukya to Unguwan Hausawa Road with three Span River Bridge in Abaji Area Council.
Speaking at the event on Monday, the Minister expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his visionary leadership and to the people of Abaji for their cooperation in ensuring the successful completion of the project. The road project, initiated in January 2024, was completed ahead of schedule in November 2024, underscoring the administration’s promise to deliver on its commitments.
“Let me take this opportunity to say Happy New Year to each and every one of you. Are you happy? I am glad to see your smiles because this is the result of keeping promises. In January last year, after a stakeholder meeting, we flagged off this project and promised it would be ready by December. Today, it is January 2025, and I am proud to commission this road,” Wike said.
The Minister also reiterated the administration’s resolve to address security challenges in Abaji by establishing two additional police divisions, which are expected to be completed in a few months.
“In that stakeholder meeting, we promised to provide more police divisions to enhance security in Abaji. By the grace of God, we will deliver on this promise shortly. Construction is ongoing, and we will hand over these facilities soon,” he assured.
Highlighting efforts in the education sector, Wike disclosed that significant progress is being made at Abaji University, where infrastructure projects are currently underway.
“We also committed to developing Abaji University. As we speak now, construction is ongoing, and this is part of our broader agenda to ensure satellite towns receive the attention they deserve,” he added.
The Minister emphasized the administration’s focus on equitable development, assuring residents that satellite towns would not be left behind in the FCT’s growth.
“While we are developing the city, we will also develop the satellite towns. Throughout this week, we will dedicate ourselves to commissioning projects in all six area councils to show that development is not limited to the city center,” Wike stated.
Wike expressed his appreciation to President Tinubu for entrusting him and other FCT leaders with the opportunity to serve, describing the administration as the “light of Nigeria.”
“Every promise we have made will be fulfilled. Don’t take us as the usual politicians. Ours is to make promises and deliver on them. This administration is the light of Nigeria, and under President Tinubu’s leadership, the country will reach its full potential,” he said.
Looking ahead, the Minister assured residents that the 2025 budget would include another road project for Abaji and promised significant project commissioning across satellite towns by the administration’s second anniversary in May.
Earlier, the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for prioritizing rural development during the inauguration of the Naharati-Ukya access road project in Abaji Area Council. Speaking at the ceremony, she expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to improving the lives of residents in rural communities. “I am honored to extend our gratitude to Mr. President for the privilege of overseeing the territory on his behalf. This project is a testament to the Tinubu administration’s dedication to equitable development across the FCT,” she stated.
Dr. Mahmoud underscored the importance of rural road infrastructure in driving economic growth and improving the livelihoods of rural residents. She noted that the 5km Naharati access road, featuring two-span river bridges, would facilitate connectivity, stimulate local economies, and create opportunities for rural producers. “Improved road networks like this one connect rural producers to markets, enabling them to sell goods at fair prices and access essential services. To get the FCT of our dreams, we must first strengthen its roots, and our roots are the area councils, satellite towns, and villages,” she said.
The Minister of State also praised the leadership of the FCT Minister, Barr Nyesom Wike, for his dedication to delivering impactful projects within record time.
The event was attended by the FCT Minister of State, security agency representatives, traditional rulers, community leaders, and a jubilant crowd of Abaji residents, who celebrated the fulfillment of a long-awaited promise.
