Youths from Zangon Maje village have torched 24 houses and 16 silos at Gidan Na Ruwa Fulani Settlement in Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
A resident of the settlement that the attack occurred on Monday when an armed group stormed their village.
According to him, the villagers spotted a large number of individuals from Zangon Maje, flashing torchlights and chanting war slogans as they approached, prompting residents to flee.
Police spokesperson SP Lawan Shiisu Adam confirmed the incident, stating that on March 9, 2025, at approximately 9:45 PM, residents of Gidan Na Ruwa reported sighting a hostile group advancing toward their community.
Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer of Taura led a patrol team to the scene.
“On arrival, the team discovered that youths from Zangon Maje had set fire to 24 thatched houses and 16 local granaries,” Shiisu said.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the violence erupted following an earlier incident where two individuals from Zangon Maje—Musa Hussaini, 20, and Shanu Sule, 26—were assaulted and had their motorcycle stolen. In response, they raised an alarm, prompting members of their community to mobilize for retaliation.
Shiisu confirmed that normalcy has been restored, with intensified patrols to prevent further unrest.
Five suspects have been arrested and are assisting with the investigation.
The police urged residents to refrain from taking the law into their hands and to report grievances to the appropriate authorities for swift action.
Shiisu warned that anyone found culpable would face severe consequences.
