Police Prevent Man from Jumping Off Telecom Mast Over Alleged Debt

The Gombe State Police Command has successfully intervened in a suicide attempt by 27-year-old Mohammed Bello, who climbed an MTN telecom mast at Maimala Buni Street, Gombe LGA, and refused to come down.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, officers from the Pantami Division were swiftly dispatched after receiving a distress call.
Upon arrival, they engaged Bello, who claimed he was being pursued by security agencies over debts owed to two creditors and preferred to end his life rather than face the consequences.
The situation was diffused with the intervention of Katukan Gombe, a respected community leader, who assured Bello that his debts would be settled, persuading him to climb down.
Bello complied, safely descending from the mast before being taken into police custody for questioning.
The police commended the swift response of officers and community leaders in peacefully resolving the incident and urged the public to seek constructive solutions to financial challenges, emphasizing that help is always available.
