Labour Party Forms Committee to Strengthen Ties with National Assembly Members

The Labour Party (LP) has set up a three-member Intervention and Truce Committee to improve its relationship with its members in the National Assembly. The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, made the announcement on Tuesday in Abuja, stating that the initiative is aimed at fostering internal harmony within the party.
The committee, which was inaugurated on Monday, is led by Ben Etanabene, with Mathew Nworgu and Chinedu Obika serving as members. LP National Chairman, Julius Abure, officially launched the committee at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.
Abure emphasized that the committee’s primary responsibility is to engage with LP lawmakers in both the Senate and the House of Representatives. He tasked the members with resolving any lingering issues between the legislators and the party leadership, urging them to foster unity and cooperation.
“We entrust you with this crucial task of fostering unity among our National Assembly members,” Abure stated during the inauguration. He stressed the importance of ensuring that all 40 LP lawmakers align with the party’s leadership and work together to strengthen the party’s position in the legislative arm of government.
While acknowledging the contributions of LP lawmakers, Abure also pointed out areas that need improvement. He expressed confidence that the committee would play a vital role in bridging gaps and ensuring smooth communication between the legislators and the party’s leadership.
The committee has been given a two-week deadline to complete its assignment and submit a comprehensive report on its findings and recommendations. The expectation is that the committee will identify and address the key issues affecting the relationship between the lawmakers and the party, helping to create a more cohesive and united front.
Ben Etanabene, the committee chairman, assured that the team would take its responsibility seriously. He reaffirmed the commitment to working diligently towards achieving a lasting resolution that will strengthen the party’s unity and effectiveness.
The formation of this committee comes amid efforts by LP to solidify its position as a key opposition party in Nigeria’s political landscape. By ensuring stronger ties between its leadership and elected lawmakers, the party aims to maintain a coordinated and effective presence in the National Assembly.
