Bayelsa Health Commissioner Joins Wife Of The Governor, Flagoff Measles-Rubella Vaccination

Prof. Seiyefa Brisibe, the Commissioner Ministry of Health Bayelsa State and the Primary Health Care Board, in collaboration with the office of the First Lady of Bayelsa State, and other partners flagged off Measles-Rubella vaccination advocacy campaign yesterday at peace park Yenagoa.

Measles and Rubella are both highly contagious viral diseases that causes serious health complications, especially in children and pregnant women that transmits or spreads through respiratory droplets (coughing, sneezing) and direct contact.

Prof. Brisibe stated that health care development remains a top priority by the Diri-led prosperity government and that the event has to do with averting deaths of over 2.5million children and congenital abnormalities that would’ve affected 3million children across the country.

He said as a State, they’re in tune in getting health indices right saying that the gathering isn’t only to celebrate progress but also to confront a reality that affects the children and communities, and also to appreciate the impact posed by measles and rubella diseases.

He stated that the introduction of measles and rubella vaccines would be a booster towards safeguarding the people as it’s proven to be safe and effective, having potentials of preventing deaths and disabilities and by achieving all vaccination coverage, health immunity can be established in protecting even the most vulnerable children(newborns and individuals) with medical conditions who cannot be vaccinated.

The Bayelsa Health Commissioner, Prof. Brisibe commended Gov. Diri, his deputy, and the Nigerian Coordinating Minister for Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Alli Pate for their standing unanimous decisions in safeguarding Nigerians in the fight against diseases across the nation and the State.

He also thanked the development partners and lauded the Wife of the governor, Dr. (Mrs.) Gloria Diri for her love and care towards the lives of Bayelsans highlighting her marching orders when it always comes to health care development of the State.

Prof. Brisibe joined Her Excellency, the Wife of the governor, and assured Bayelsans of a more better care and health care development in support of the prosperity champion, Senator Douye Diri and his deputy in bringing a robust health-care system as part of the Assured Agenda, and called parents and caregivers to always go out for the vaccination.
