The Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF) has strongly condemned the recent killing of travelers in Edo State, describing the incident as unacceptable. The forum called for urgent action from security agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice and prevent further attacks.
In a statement issued by the chairman of the forum, Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, the governors expressed deep concern over the growing insecurity affecting different parts of the country. They emphasized that such acts of violence pose a serious threat to national unity and stability.
The attack, which reportedly took place along the Benin-Auchi Road, involved gunmen ambushing a group of travelers. Several people were killed, while others sustained injuries. The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with many calling for improved security measures in the region.
The NSGF urged the federal and state governments to intensify efforts in combating banditry, kidnapping, and other forms of violent crime. They also called on security agencies to enhance intelligence gathering and surveillance to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The forum extended condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured. They reassured the public that they would continue to engage with relevant authorities to ensure the safety of all Nigerians, regardless of their region or background.
