Sultan of Sokoto Urges Nigerians to Address Leaders Respectfully

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has cautioned Nigerians against insulting their leaders while voicing their concerns. He advised citizens to express their grievances in a respectful manner, emphasizing that constructive dialogue is more effective in addressing national issues.
Speaking at a public event, the Sultan stressed the importance of mutual respect between the government and the people. He acknowledged the frustrations many Nigerians face due to economic and social challenges but urged them to engage leaders with dignity and decorum. According to him, insults and disrespectful language only create further division and hinder meaningful dialogue.
The traditional ruler also called on political and community leaders to be more responsive to the needs of the people. He emphasized that leadership comes with responsibility and that those in power must listen to the concerns of citizens and work towards solutions.
His remarks have sparked discussions on the balance between free speech and respect for authority, with some agreeing that civility is necessary in public discourse, while others argue that leaders must earn the people’s respect through good governance.
