Chairman of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, has pledged a cash reward of $500,000 to the Super Eagles if they defeat Morocco in their semi-final match at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The pledge was announced on Saturday via Rabiu’s official X account shortly after Nigeria secured qualification for the semi-finals. The Super Eagles booked their place in the last four following a 2-0 victory over Algeria in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
Nigeria’s win against the Desert Foxes was sealed by goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams. The result kept the Super Eagles on course for a possible fourth AFCON title and sparked celebrations among fans across the country.
The Super Eagles, coached by Eric Chelle, are scheduled to face tournament hosts Morocco on Wednesday night. The semi-final encounter will kick off at 9pm Nigerian time, with the winner advancing to the final slated for January 18.
In his message, Rabiu congratulated the players for their performance against Algeria and praised them for lifting the morale of the nation. He said the team’s efforts had inspired Nigerians and deserved tangible encouragement ahead of the crucial semi-final clash.
Rabiu, who is regarded as Nigeria’s second richest man, stated that the $500,000 reward would be paid to the players if they overcome Morocco. He also announced an additional incentive tied to goals scored during the semi-final.
According to Rabiu, the players would receive an extra $50,000 for every goal scored against the North African hosts. The incentives are aimed at motivating the team as they face one of the tournament favourites on home soil.
The BUA Group chairman went further by extending his pledge beyond the semi-finals. He said that if the Super Eagles go on to win the final, he would reward them with an additional $1,000,000.
Rabiu added that there would also be a goal-based incentive in the final, with $100,000 promised for each goal scored should Nigeria lift the trophy. His announcement represents one of the most significant private pledges made to the national team during the current AFCON.
In his statement, Rabiu wrote, “Congratulations to our Super Eagles players on a brilliant victory against Algeria. You have lifted the spirit of the nation, and we proudly cheer you on as you prepare for the semi-finals.”
He continued by saying, “To encourage you, I pledge USD $500,000 to the players upon winning the semi-final, with an additional USD $50,000 for every goal scored.”
Rabiu also confirmed his commitment to further rewards if the team succeeds in the final. “Should you go on to win the final, I further pledge USD $1,000,000, plus USD $100,000 for each goal scored in the final,” he said.
The businessman concluded his message by wishing the team continued success as they represent the country on the continental stage. He expressed confidence in their ability to carry Nigeria forward and make the nation proud.
Nigeria’s run at the 2025 AFCON has attracted strong public support, with fans closely following the team’s progress. The Super Eagles are aiming to add to their previous AFCON titles and end a long wait for continental glory.
The semi-final against Morocco is expected to be a stern test, given the hosts’ strong form and home advantage. However, the Super Eagles will be buoyed by their recent performances and the financial backing pledged by Rabiu.
As anticipation builds ahead of Wednesday’s match, the incentive has added extra motivation for the players as they seek to secure a place in the AFCON final and keep Nigeria’s title hopes alive.
