Barr. Ayebakuro Igbeta PhD a one time Legal Adviser of the Ijaw Youths Council has commended the Executive Governor of Bayelsa State His Excellency Sen. Douye Diri and the Government and people of Bayelsa State for the befitting burial and last honour given to the late Deputy Governor Sen. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.
Igbeta in a brief statement released to newsmen yesterday following the end of the 5day funeral programme, stated that Lawrence wherever he may be, would be pleased with the honour accorded him by his immediate principal and the people he served diligently and with all his life. Igbeta stressed that as foster son of Sen. Lawrence considering the extent, depth and participation of the funeral programme everyone can say for sure that Lawrence was indeed loved and treasured even across blocks, and now we can sadly leave that episode behind and move on with our public lives (even though private emotions and devotions may take life time).
The statement further acknowledged and appreciated the roles played and the kind words by eminent personalities like the Former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria His Excellent Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and His Wife Dame Dr. Patient Jonathan, the Former Governor of Bayelsa State and Senator representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District in the Red Chamber Dist. Sen. Henry Seriake Dickson, the Nigerian Deputy Governors Forum, special thanks were sent to Sen. Ayim Pius Ayim, His Excellency Sir Peter Gregory Obi, Gov. Seyi Makinde and the Nigerian Governors Forum repeatedly by the Governor of Kwara State His Excellency Adburazak Abduraman, and other eminent persons particularly His Excellenecy President Bola Ahmed Tinubu the President and Commander-In-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria ably represented at the funeral by the Hon. Minister of State for Petroleum Resource (Oil) Sen. Heineken Lokopobiri, and His Excellenecy Kashim Shetima GCON the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the entire members of the National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Igbeta thanked members of the Bayelsa State Executive, especially the Judiciary and Legislature and other top Government funtionaries, the various Youths Groups and the entire people of Bayelsa for the show of love and solidarity with the Ewhrudjakpo immediate and Political families and for the kind words all through this solem period of mourning following the passing of the late Deputy Governor on the 11th day of December, 2025.
The statement prayed that the good God in His infinite mercies meet each and everyone who in one way or the other (even in private of their hearts) saw to the success of the burial and prayed for the peaceful repose of the soul of our department leader.
The former IYC legal Adviser took time to also console the grieving families of the accident victims of Friday on their way to Ofoni, Igbeta described the ill fated event as unfortunate and prayed for the peaceful repose of the souls of the victims and for God Almighty to grant the families the fortitude to bear the loss.
Calling on Governor Douye Diri, Igbeta pleased that victims should be granted proper state funded burial and the individual families properly taken care of, as it is necessary for a state such as Bayelsa to look out for all its citizens no matter how highly placed or otherwise, which is the style of compassionate leadership that Gov.DIRI had introduced since assuming Office 5yrs ago.
