A Bayelsa indigene, Mr. Foundation Otodo, has called on the Bayelsa State Government to urgently consider evacuating students studying in parts of Northern Nigeria due to escalating security concerns. The appeal comes amid reports of increasing terrorist attacks and widespread displacement of residents in affected regions.
In a formal letter addressed to the state government, Otodo expressed deep concern over the safety of Bayelsa students currently enrolled in universities and other higher institutions in Plateau, Nasarawa, and Sokoto States. He noted that the deteriorating security situation in these areas poses a serious threat to lives and requires immediate attention.
Otodo emphasized that the wave of violence and instability in parts of Northern Nigeria has forced many residents to flee their communities. He warned that students, who often live far from home and may lack adequate protection, are particularly vulnerable under such conditions.
He urged the government to act proactively by temporarily evacuating Bayelsa students from the affected states. According to him, such a measure would demonstrate the government’s commitment to safeguarding its citizens, especially young people pursuing their education.
As part of his recommendation, Otodo proposed that the state government explore arrangements to transfer affected students to institutions within Bayelsa State.
