Bayelsa guber tussle: Group cautions YPP against taking N200m bribe from APC Minister

TRACKING______A group, under the aegis of Progressive Youth for Good Governance (PYGG), has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) and one of its ministers from Bayelsa state are desperate to use the Young Progressives Party (YPP) to fight Bayelsa state governor, Diri Duoye at the court over his mandate. The group, in a statement released by its President, Fabian Ugochukwu on Friday in Port Harcourt, alleged that the said minister and his party were offering a bribe to the tune of N200 million to YPP to fight the governor in the court. The YPP is currently in court over what it termed “unlawful exclusion” from the November 2019 governorship election in Bayelsa.PYGG advised the YPP not to allow itself to be used as an agent of destabilisation in Bayelsa state, adding that the party should rather join hands with the governor to move the state forward. The group also cautioned the YPP not to be deceived by the fake promises of monetary gratification noting that the APC has no such money to give now, because the COVID-19 pandemic has taken a serious toll on the nation’s purse.“Our advice to YPP is for them to join hands with Governor Diri to develop Bayelsa state. They shouldn’t be allowed to be deceived by one man because of selfish interest. APC has no N200 million to spare now. This pandemic has taken a toll on the nation’s purse and should not allow a selfish minister to deceive them.” the group counselled.PYGG wondered why the Minister is taking his frustration to the extreme and looking for every backdoor tactic to get Gov. Douye out of office following the sack of his anointed candidate, APC’s David Lyon by the Supreme Court, just a few hours to his inaugurationThe Group lamented that while the nation is fighting to checkmate the spread of COVID-19 pandemic, the only concern of APC and its minister from Bayelsa state is to distract the governor, the state and its people with unnecessary political issues just for the sake of grabbing ̣power forcefully. The Group stated further: “Let me tell the APC and the Minister that nobody can unseat Governor Diri, because the position has already been ordained by God. The best thing for the Minister and his party to do is to put aside their primordial sentiment and join hands with the governor and government of Bayelsa state to fight this dreaded virus, called COVID-19.“Not only joining hands with the governor to fight the COVID-19, but also should support the governor and government of Bayelsa to develop the state. If the state is developed, it will benefit everybody.
