Dr. Enebraye Patrick Orusengha has formally declared his intention to contest for the position of Chairman of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Central Zone ahead of the forthcoming elections. He made the declaration during a meeting with the Sagbama Local Government Area (SALGA) House of the IYC, comprising founding members and key stakeholders from the area.
The meeting brought together influential figures within the Sagbama IYC structure, providing a platform for engagement between the chairmanship aspirant and grassroots leaders. Dr. Orusengha, who hails from Sagbama Local Government Area, used the opportunity to outline his vision and seek support for his candidacy.
In his address, he acknowledged the efforts and sacrifices of past and present leaders who have contributed to sustaining the Ijaw struggle and promoting youth development within the Central Zone. He emphasized the importance of continuity in leadership and pledged to build on the achievements of previous administrations if elected.
Dr. Orusengha stated that his leadership would focus on unity, accountability, and service delivery. He assured stakeholders that his administration would prioritize the collective interests of youths while fostering responsible governance across the zone.
Reflecting on his history within the IYC, he noted that he has been actively involved in the council’s activities over the years. He revealed that he had previously aspired to serve as Student Representative but stepped down following advice from leaders in order to maintain peace and unity within the organization.
He also highlighted his participation in higher-level contests, including his bid for the position of National Deputy President in the election that produced Comrade Savior Olali. According to him, his continued involvement in the council demonstrates his long-standing commitment to its progress.
Dr. Orusengha further detailed his legislative experience as a Parliamentarian in the 4th Mobile Parliament under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Pogonyo Eldred Digimie. He noted that the role provided him with insight into governance and policy-making within the IYC structure.
In addition, he served on the Peace and Conflict Resolution Committee during the tenure of former Central Zone Chairman, Comrade Clever Inodu. He described this experience as critical in developing his capacity to manage disputes and promote harmony within youth organizations.
He also referenced his role in the IYC Constitution Review Committee, where he represented the Central Zone following his nomination by the current Chairman, Comrade Peres Ineife. The committee produced the 2025 IYC Constitution, which will guide upcoming elections at national, zonal, chapter, and clan levels.
According to Dr. Orusengha, these cumulative experiences have equipped him with the knowledge and leadership skills necessary to effectively serve as Chairman. He said his administration would focus on practical initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of youths across the Central Zone.
