Content creator and social media influencer Amarachi Amusi, popularly known as Ashmusy, has opened up about her decision to freeze her eggs, describing it as a personal step aimed at protecting her future dream of becoming a mother.
In an interview with Punch, the influencer said motherhood is extremely important to her, and she wanted to ensure she still had the opportunity to have children later in life regardless of how her relationships unfold.
Ashmusy explained that several serious relationships she believed would eventually lead to marriage did not work out as expected. According to her, those experiences made her reconsider her plans and realise that finding the right life partner could take longer than she initially imagined.
She said the decision to freeze her eggs came after a period of reflection and acceptance about where she currently stands in life.
“I really wanted to secure my future as a mother. Motherhood is very important to me, and I want to be sure that I will become a mum in the future, no matter what happens,” she said.
The influencer noted that she once believed she would be married before turning 30. However, after reaching that age without getting married, she said she had to adjust her expectations and focus on planning for her future differently.
“Earlier in life, I was convinced I would get married before turning 30, but when I turned 30, and it still hadn’t happened, I had to confront reality,” she said.
Ashmusy disclosed that she initially learned about egg freezing after hearing former Big Brother Naija housemate Uriel discuss her own experience with the procedure. She said the idea stayed with her and later became something she seriously considered.
“I first learnt about egg freezing when Uriel froze her eggs a few years ago. I saved the information somewhere because I thought it was such a smart decision,” she explained.
Before proceeding, Ashmusy said she spent time researching the medical process extensively. According to her, she consulted doctors, used online resources, and gathered information about how egg freezing works and the possible future options available through assisted reproductive technology.
She explained that the procedure involves collecting eggs from a woman’s ovaries and preserving them under controlled conditions until they may later be used for conception through medical assistance such as in-vitro fertilisation (IVF).
Ashmusy also spoke about the emotional impact of the decision, saying she initially experienced pressure and fear about aging and relationships before eventually reaching a point of clarity and peace.
“At first, there was panic, pressure, and fear, but eventually I reached a point of acceptance. Once I accepted where I was in life, I found clarity and began to heal,” she said.
According to her, freezing her eggs has helped reduce anxiety about her future and allowed her to approach relationships without feeling rushed by age or societal expectations.
“It has given me peace of mind. I feel safe, secure, and relaxed now. I can calmly take my time to find the right partner without feeling pressured by age or my biological clock,” she added.
The interview has generated discussions on social media about fertility preservation, societal pressure surrounding marriage, and women’s reproductive choices. Some supporters praised Ashmusy for speaking openly about a topic that is often considered private, while others debated the growing popularity of egg freezing among women focused on career and personal development.
Medical experts say egg freezing has become increasingly common in many countries as women seek more flexibility in family planning. Specialists, however, often advise individuals considering the procedure to seek proper medical guidance and understand both the benefits and limitations involved.
Ashmusy remains one of Nigeria’s well-known digital personalities, with a large following across social media platforms where she shares lifestyle, comedy, and entertainment content. Her comments have continued to attract attention online as conversations around modern relationships and fertility choices evolve.
