Govt admonishes Lagosians on cleaner environment
TRACKING ___Lagos State Government has urged residents to be mindful of a cleaner environment during the celebration of the Ed-eil-Kabir.
It advised ram sellers not to display rams on streets, major highways, road medians, walkways, lay-byes, gardens and parks across the state, reminding them that the law against street trading is still in force.
The government said while it is not unusual for traders to take advantage of the season to sell rams, this must be done in designated markets without defacing the state’s aesthetics or compromising the wellness and well-being of residents.
Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources Mr. Tunji Bello said this in a statement.
He reiterated the need for Lagosians to demonstrate love for their environment as they celebrate.
Bello, wishing Muslims a happy Sallah, enjoined Lagosians to respect the environment, bearing in mind that a lot of wastes would be generated during the period and must be disposed properly after bagging through approved PSP operators.
The commissioner gave a commitment to Lagosians that the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, through the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), is committed to a cleaner Lagos.
He assured residents that efforts would be redoubled by the agency during the Sallah celebrations.
He said the current administration is in the forefront of the continuous campaign for a healthy people and a green and cleaner environment.
Bello advised residents to desist from acts that could have negative impacts on the environment.
He said: “In view of the prevalence of the pandemic COVID-19 and observance of the prescribed safety protocols, people must ensure that they handle wastes in the most appropriate way”
