The role of media in shaping civic awareness and youth participation formed a key part of discussions at the Renewed Hope Campus Dialogue in Abuja, where stakeholders emphasized the importance of strategic communication in strengthening Nigeria’s democratic process.
At the Federal Ministry of Environment, Maitama, Abuja, Dr. Peter Oladele Olasunkanmi, Chief Executive Officer of Blue Tile Media Technology and Founder of Blue Tile TV, stressed the need for intentional storytelling and media-driven civic education to boost youth participation in governance.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Olasunkanmi noted that media platforms play a critical role in influencing public perception, especially among young people, and must therefore be used to promote responsible civic engagement and democratic awareness.
He called for increased collaboration between media organisations, youth advocacy groups, and educational institutions to amplify voter education campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to him, Nigeria’s democratic progress is closely tied to how well civic messages are communicated and how effectively young people are engaged through modern media channels.
He encouraged students and content creators to use digital platforms to promote voter registration, civic responsibility, and national development narratives rather than disengagement or political apathy.
Dr. Olasunkanmi further emphasized that media should not only report events but also shape national consciousness by promoting informed participation and accountability.
His remarks formed part of broader discussions at the Renewed Hope Campus Dialogue, which brought together youth leaders, policymakers, and student representatives under themes focused on civic participation, leadership development, and student empowerment.
The programme also featured the launch of a Campus Food Bank initiative aimed at supporting students facing economic hardship across tertiary institutions.
The dialogue concluded with renewed calls for stronger youth engagement, improved civic education, and expanded democratic participation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
