YENAGOA____Hon. Azibapu Fred Obua (FNIQS), Member representing Ogbia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Information and National Orientation, today, Monday, 9th November, 2020; led Officials of the Ecological Fund Office, the Federal Government Agency in charge of providing funding towards the mitigation of environmental challenges such as soil erosion and perennial flooding, to Anyama-Ogbia for a preliminary site evaluation and design’ visit.
Speaking at the Community, Hon.Fred Obua who empathized with the Community over the ravaging soil erosion and perennial flooding, stated that the Ecological challenges facing the area are surmountable, hinting that he is and will continue to impress on the Ecological Fund Office and other relevant Establishments to come to the rescue of the Anyama-Ogbia Community and People and to include Anyama-Ogbia erosion and flooding menace as an Ecological intervention project.
Hon. Obua who spoke through, Barr. Nelson Abali, an Environmental Rights’ Lawyer, further explained that the visit will enable the visiting team from the Ecological Fund Office to gather preliminary scientific data and measurements with which to produce the proposed project’s design and bill of quantities for further action.
Hon. Obua, who is a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, while thanking the Anyama- Ogbia People for their resilience in the face of the Ecological challenges over the years, reveals that a Motion for Federal Government’s immediate attention to arrest the Anyama-Ogbia soil erosion and perennial flooding sponsored by him is before the House and shall be moved when the House reconvenes, assuring his Constituents from Ogbia Federal Constituency that he will do everything humanly possible to make life more meaningful for the People he represents.
He urged the Federal Government not to allow Anyama and other Ogbia Communities to suffer further neglect as a result of geographical location or political considerations.
Also speaking, Engr. Anthony Uruaka of the Ecological Fund Office – Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation-the Presidency, stated that the visit is a necessary step aimed at collating data firsthand preparatory project design based on the best and cost effective method of mitigation of the identified Ecological Challenge.
In his remarks on behalf of the Community, the Obanema of Anyama-Ogbia, HRH Sopana Agala, welcomed Hon. Obua’s delegation and the visiting team from the Ecological Fund Office to the Community, commending Hon. Obua for his legislative interventions and for having the Community at heart, praying that his efforts be crowned with timely results.
Chief Agala who noted that the Community is being daily washed away, charged the visiting team to go about their job with human face and to do all they can to come to their aide.
Highpoint of the visit was the collection of relevant data from points of interest through scientific means and oral interviews.
