Popular Nigerian gospel singer and Niger Delta music icon, Asu Ekiye, has announced the end of his 28-year marriage to his wife, Kunemofa Asu.
Ekiye made the announcement in a public notice, saying the decision followed years of personal growth, experience and reflection.
The gospel artiste, popularly known as “The Prince of the Niger Delta,” said the marriage had actually ended a year ago, but he deliberately waited until now before making the development public.
According to him, the decision to delay the announcement was to allow time for perspective, clarity and quiet acceptance of the deeply personal transition.
“After 28 years of a deeply personal journey of growth, experience and reflection, I wish to announce, with a profound sense of sobriety and quiet resignation, that my marriage to KUNEMOFA ASU has come to an end,” he stated.
Ekiye said he has chosen to close the chapter with “grace, gratitude and dignity” while looking forward to a new phase of life.
“Some chapters, however significant and memorable, eventually come to an end. I choose to close this chapter with grace, gratitude and dignity, while looking ahead to the possibilities of a new season,” he added.
The announcement marks the end of a marriage that had spanned nearly three decades. Earlier reports documented the couple celebrating their 21st wedding anniversary in February 2019.
Asu Ekiye is a prominent Bayelsa-born gospel musician whose career includes several albums and major awards, including Channel O recognition as Best African Gospel Artist.
The couple had previously been publicly known as a family with children, with biographical accounts describing their long-standing marriage.
