Bayelsa Govt Provides World Standard Wrestling Mat, Approved GYM Construction
The Bayelsa State Sports Council has taken delivery of the Wrestling Mat provided by the State Government.
Making the presentation on behalf of the State Government to the Sports Council on Friday at the Conference Hall of the Sampson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Champion Hon. Daniel Igali, said the provision of the new mat was part of the Prosperity Government policy directives to make Bayelsa one of the best sporting states in Nigeria.
The Commissioner disclosed further that the Government has also approved the construction of a state-of-the-art wresting gym as well as the procurement of 32 seater buses for the state-owned football clubs, Bayelsa United and Bayelsa Queen.
Hon. Igali added that the Bayelsa State Government is not only committed in meeting the infrastructural needs of the various sporting outfits in the State but also the welfare of athletes and coaches for effective service delivery.
Hon. Igali therefore, charged athletes and coaches to guard the wrestling mat jealously, noting that, the prospect of a replacement might not be viable at the moment since there are other sporting outfits that need the same attention.
Secretary of the Bayelsa State Wrestling Association, Mr. Akraka Ineye, said the wrestling mat would enable them prepare adequately for the National Sports Festival as well as future competitions, and promised its proper maintenance.
He commended the efforts of the Government and the Commissioner geared towards changing the face of Sports in the State.
