Ivie Atuwatse III, wife of Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri, has spoken about her marriage to the traditional ruler, describing both the joys and challenges that come with his position.
Ivie made the remarks during a recent interview with BBC News Pidgin, where she discussed life as the wife of the monarch and the demands associated with his traditional responsibilities.
She said one of the things she enjoys most about her marriage is seeing people celebrate her husband’s achievements, personality and public presence.
According to her, watching others appreciate the Olu gives her additional pride and happiness.
However, Ivie acknowledged that the monarch’s numerous responsibilities can sometimes make it difficult for the couple to spend enough time together.
She said they are learning to navigate the demands of his position, while admitting that there are times when she simply wants to have her husband to herself.
The interviewer also asked whether she would accept another wife if the Olu were to change his previously stated position against polygamy.
Ivie dismissed the possibility, saying she was confident that her husband would not change his mind.
She further joked about being sufficient for her husband, saying: “Me alone, one me, I be like three women, so I dey alright for am.”
Her remarks have drawn attention online, particularly her humorous response to the question of polygamy and her comments about adjusting to life as the wife of a traditional ruler.
