Primate Babatunde Ayodele has urged President Bola Tinubu to cancel the October 1 Independence Day parade, warning of possible danger if the event goes ahead.
Ayodele issued the warning in a video shared on X ahead of Nigeria’s Independence Day celebration.
According to the cleric, proceeding with the parade could expose the event to unspecified danger.
“October 1st, President Tinubu should cancel the parade. If he attempts to go ahead with it, there is danger in it,” Ayodele said.
The cleric also advised Nigerians against accepting gifts or other inducements from politicians in exchange for their support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He urged voters to make their choices based on their conscience and the candidates they believe would serve the interests of the public.
Ayodele said Nigerians should remain prayerful and vigilant as the country approaches the Independence Day celebration and the 2027 electoral season.
