A former governor of Borno State, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has stated that he will contest the position of national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) if it is zoned to the North East region.

Sheriff stated this on Wednesday in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, when he visited the state governor, Abdullahi Sule.

TrackNews Online reports that the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee led by Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni is yet to fix a date for the national convention where new National Working Committee (NWC) members would be elected.

This newspaper reports that Governor Sule had openly back a former governor of Nasarawa State, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, for the APC chairmanship, calling the partyleadership to zone it to the nORTH-CENTRAL.

But Sheriff said as a former national of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), he has all the experience needed to succeed.

He assured that if the slot is zoned to the North Central, he would support a frontline contender that is in the good books of Governor Sule.
