Former Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, has called for the rebuilding of Nigeria’s agricultural extension system to improve productivity and strengthen food security.
Kyari said an effective extension system would help farmers gain access to modern farming techniques, improved inputs, technology and relevant agricultural knowledge.
He stressed the need for stronger collaboration among government agencies, researchers, extension workers and farmers to ensure innovations developed in the agricultural sector reach those working directly on farms.
According to him, revitalising agricultural extension services is important to increasing farmers’ productivity, improving food production and supporting sustainable agricultural development across the country.
He also called for greater investment in training and equipping extension officers to enable them to effectively support farmers and respond to emerging challenges in the sector.
