Hausa Okada riders face off with policemen as two shot dead
The killing of two Hausa motorcyclists by police officers at Modupe Junction, Ajayi Road in the Ogba area quickly led to a clash between the police and Okada riders.
The clash occurred on Friday morning.
Multiple sources told Peoples Gazette that the motorcyclists were shot on Thursday over a reason that remains unclear.
This led to confrontations between the Hausas and officers, after the latter prevented other motorcyclists from working, a resident told The Gazette, to avoid havoc.
The Hausas said to be over a hundred mobilised themselves and marched to the Area G police command, Ogba.
“So, the riders set out on protest and preventing other riders from working as well,” he said. “I also heard a gunshot from my house this morning. The Hausas gathered at the second junction in the area this morning.”
Another resident also confirmed the sounds of gunshots earlier on Friday.
Also, a statement issued by the Ajayi Road Youth Platform said, “As of this morning, an incident where policemen killed two Okada riders yesterday is almost turning so bloody.”
It added, “There had been no security personnel on the ground to forestall the deepening of the crisis. Efforts to reach the Ifako-Ijaiye LGA Chairman proved abortive.”
The police spokesman in Lagos, Muyiwa Adejobi, did not respond to telephone calls as The Gazette sought his comment on the crisis.
