Buhari Appoints Adamu Abdulahmid As New Envoy To WTO
President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Dr. Adamu Abdulhamid, as Nigeria’s Ambassador to the World Trade Organization.
The appointment was contained in a letter sent by the Office of the Chief-of-Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, to the Minister of Industry Trade and Investment, Niyi Adebayo.
This was contained in a statement titled, ‘PMB Appoints New Nigeria’s Ambassador to WTO’, issued by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, on Wednesday.
“The President, Muhammadu Buhari, has approved the appointment Dr. Adamu Mohammed Abdulhamid, as the new Nigeria’s Ambassador to the World Trade Organization, Geneva Switzerland for a period of four years,” the statement read in part.
Adebayo charged the new ambassador to work together with the Director-General of the Organization, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, members of WTO and other International Organizations including the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, International Trade Centre, and World Intellectual Property Organization to move Nigeria’s trade to the next level in the global organization.
Before his appointment, Adamu, was the Acting Head, Chargé d’ Affaires of Nigeria Trade Office to the WTO, Geneva, Switzerland.
He holds an Msc. in Economics and International Development from Clermont Ferrand University, France, a Master’s Degree in Business Management and Leadership from London Graduate School, UK, and a Doctorate of International Relations and Economic Diplomacy from the Commonwealth University, UK.
Adamu has acquired 28 years of working experience on World Trade matters and Trade Negotiations and was the campaign coordinator of Okonjo-Iweala in Geneva, Switzerland when she was vying for the position of the DG of WTO
