Insecurity in Anambra started with PDP, Andy Uba: Soludo

Mr Soludo said the PDP and Mr Uba institutionalised the kidnapping of politicians in the state.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the November 6 governorship election, Andy Uba, are the originators of insecurity in Anambra, according to former Central Bank Governor Charles Soludo.

“Insecurity in Anambra started with the PDP government and orchestrated by my brother on the right hand (Andy Uba) kidnapping a sitting governor.

“It was a PDP legacy in Anambra. The violence, kidnapping in this state was started by PDP when my brother at the right-hand side (Andy Uba) was at the engine room stocking up all the fires,” the former CBN governor said.

Mr Soludo, who is the candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) for the coming election, made the accusation during the Anambra governorship election debate organised by Arise TV on Monday.

He accused Mr Uba of being the mastermind behind the abduction of Chris Ngige, former Anambra governor and now minister of labour and employment.

Mr Soludo said the PDP and Mr Uba institutionalised the kidnapping of politicians in the state.

However, since the ouster of the PDP in Anambra in 2006, APGA has been in government but has equally not done much to rein in insecurity in the state.

This allegation by Mr Soludo is likely to add to factors placing Mr Uba at a disadvantage barely a few days into the election.

The Centre for Democracy had in a report stated that the APC candidate had a steep hill to climb to win popular support at the poll.

In the report published by Peoples Gazette, the CDD said Mr Uba’s party, the APC, was the most disadvantaged among the three main contenders in terms of incumbency; lacking a representative in either the state or federal houses of assembly and the Senate.
