Despite N2.013 billion SUBEB allocation, Kebbi primary school pupils learn under Tree

Children of Tondi Gada Nizaniya community in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State are learning under the Tree despite the sum of N2.013 billion 2020 State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) allocation.
An allocation the state said is to guarantee good and quality primary education. However, despite the allocation, Tondi Gada Nizaniya Primary School children have continued to learn sitting under the Tree. And, this is even as the pupils are over 300 in number with some jam-packed in the classroom while those that do not have access to classroom are left to learn under a tree.
Apart from the pupils learning under the tree, the school lacks desks, teachers, and other educational material that aid teaching and learning. Tracknews.ng gathered that the terrible situation in the school has since appealed to the Kebbi State government to help fix it.
This is even as the 2020 Nigeria Education Data Survey (NEDS) shows that Kebbi State has the highest population of out-of-school children with 59 percent of its children out of school, followed by Yobe State, 57 percent and Zamfara, 51 percent.
A situation the state government says it is addressing with a claim to have returned 86,000 out-of-school children to classrooms.
A claim Mr. Sulaiman Khalid, the Chairman kebbi state universal basic education board who spoke with newsmen in his office by November this year, said children that were returned are both included Almajiris and children of Nomads. An approach he said is a collaboration with UNICEF and Kebbi State government to ensure quality primary education.
Worse still, children of the Tondi Gada Nizaniya community are yet to benefit from these claims, a situation that requires the Kebbi state government to step up her Monitoring and Evaluation method to ensure impacts are properly measured.
