“Give Me Sometime” – Peter Obi Speaks On Contesting 2023 Presidency
Former Anambra State Governor and 2019 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi has hinted at contesting the 2023 presidential election in Nigeria.
Obi dropped the hint of joining the race in response to a Twitter user who had taken to the micro-blogging site to give the former Governor a deadline to declare interest in the 2023 presidency or face a court case.
The netizen, identified with the username @FakeBuhari had responded to a tweet from Obi congratulating the Super Eagles of Nigeria on defeating Sudan in the ongoing 2021 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
The handle tweeted, “Sir, if at the end of this month and you don’t declare interest for the presidency in the 2023 election, then be ready for legal action from me. Leave #AFCON2021 for Orji UZOR Kalu, that’s his calling, not yours. Your calling is excellent economic leadership. Congrats #TeamNigeria.”
In response, Mr. Obi stated that he wished he knew the real name of the person behind the Twitter handle. He added that he doesn’t have money for any court case but pleaded to be given more time.
“I wish I knew your real name. But the truth is, I don’t have money to spend on a court case. Give me some time,” Obi had tweeted in response.
In other news, Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State has described his meeting with the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu as a “family meeting of minds”.
www.tracknews.ng reports that Fayemi had met with Tinubu after the former Lagos State governor declared his intention to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.
Reports had claimed that the meeting was convened to discuss the presidential ambition of Tinubu and the upcoming Ekiti State governorship election.
Reacting in a statement on Saturday, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Fayemi, Yinka Oyebode, said the meeting of his principal with Tinubu had nothing to do with the presidential ambition or otherwise of either of the two political leaders.
In the statement titled, ‘Re: Tinubu-Fayemi meeting: The spin doctors got it wrong’, Oyebode stated that Tinubu and Fayemi’s relationship dates back to the dark years of military despotism.
According to the governor’s aide, Fayemi did not surrender his undeclared presidential ambition to Tinubu.
