Tinubu vs Aregbesola: Gbajabiamila Breaks Silence On Minister’s Probe
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has dismissed reports that the probe of the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, was due to the minister’s rift with Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
www.tracknews.ng had reported earlier that the House had resolved to probe the Minister and prisons chief, Haliru Nababa over the misappropriating about N165billion funds earmarked for the development of prisons in Nigeria.
The House, on Wednesday, resolved to probe the duo following a motion of urgent public importance moved by the Minority Leader of the House, Hon. Ndudi Elumelu.
In a statement on Thursday, Gbajabiamila said the decision to probe Aregbesola stated that the was not politically motivated.
According to the speaker, reports claiming otherwise are a misrepresentation of the original intention of the motion.
He said: “We all read the unfortunate slant that was given to the well thought-out motion by the minority leader. It’s the privilege of the entire House that was breached; it is aimed at distracting us.
“These are things that we ordinarily should ignore. More of it will still come, especially as we move toward the 2023 elections.”
Gbajabiamila pointed out that the motion was initiated by a lawmaker from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
