Why Bala Usman, A Former NPA Director Was Exonerated From Financial Wrongdoings By Amaechi Panel
According to a report by Cable, Hadiza Bala Usman, the former managing director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), has been cleared of allegations of failing to remit N165 billion operating surplus to the coffers of the federal government,
TheCable understands. However, the 11-member committee set up by the ministry of transportation to probe the alleged fraud decided to shift its attention to allegations of insubordination to Rotimi Amaechi, the minister.
Suspended NPA MD Hadiza Bala has been finally exonerated of financial wrongdoings by the Amaechi panel that investigated her. Funny enough, the panel only indicted her for insubordination. Just imagine this absurdity! This was a woman who was accused of not remitting over N160 billion revenues to the government, but now they ended up indicting her for insubordination.
The whole thing looks like a smokescreen to divert attention from the shamelessness of failing to prove these unbelievable allegations. From the beginning, the whole thing was an ego battle and a fishing expedition to get rid of a gadfly subordinate.
The false allegation is the hardest stone your opponents can throw at you. In a society where prejudice automatically influences our judgment, people tend to believe at once that you’re guilty as charged. A prejudice is an enemy of facts; people stick to their beliefs that you’re a rogue, despite being cleared by a government panel.
We are talking about N160 billion not being remitted by Hadiza Bala. Haba! Where did she divert the money to? People are always skeptical of sensational allegations. Nigerians are surprised the allegations were finally reduced to insubordination.
