APC Crisis: Buni Returns To Nigeria, Makes First Statement After Medical Leave
The executive Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, has returned to Nigeria after days in abroad for health purposes.
The political leader returned to the country on Thursday to resume his duty as the Chairman of All Progressives Congress Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee.
Naija News reports that dramatic events and controversies evolved while Buni was away abroad for his medical leave.
One of the events was an attempt to take over his position as the Chairman of the CECPC by Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger State.
The events had caused divisions in the ruling party even though party chieftains including Buni have denied any crisis in the party.
Shortly after his return to Nigeria, Buni in a press statement signed by his Director-General (Press and Media Affairs), Alhaji Mamman Mohammed, in Damaturu on Thursday, appealed to all party members to remain calm and law-abiding.
He charged party loyal to put the recent events in the party behind them and work towards a successful National Convention.
The success of the party remains paramount and needs the support of every member, Buni said.
“As we head towards the National Convention, the party needs the support of every stakeholder and member to succeed.
“As democrats and committed party members, we should avoid issues that are capable of diverting our attention from the path of success,” the CECPC chairman said.
Having expressed gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari for the amicable resolution of a recent misunderstanding in the party, Buni said it was a waste of time to hold grudges against individuals involved in the recent happenings in the party.
The Yobe State Governor insists grudges were detrimental to the success of a party, especially with the 2023 general elections at the corner.
“We appreciate the good leadership role played by Mr President in resolving the recent events to keep a united and strong APC,” he stated.
Buni said that all actions taken by the APC CECPC under Governor Bello of Niger State, who was the acting chairman, remained valid and binding.
“I duly transmitted power to His Excellency, Niger state Governor, Muhammed Sani Bello. Therefore, all actions and measures taken by the committee under his leadership as acting chairman, remain valid and binding,” Buni affirmed.
