By Doris Israel Ijeoma
There was palpable tension on Thursday in Nkpologwu community, Uzo-Uwani local government area of Enugu State over the alleged killing of 22-year-old man, Philip Okoro.
Okoro was reportedly shot on Wednesday by two members of the vigilante group in the community and was later confirmed dead after being rushed to the hospital.
While his body has now been kept in a morgue for preservation and autopsy, the Enugu State Police command has apprehended the two culprits identified as Chijioke Ezugwu and Annene Idu.
Normalcy has now returned to the community after angry youths went on rampage, setting ablaze about five houses belonging to the members of the vigilante group.
The youths, who were bent on killing the vigilante members, had mobilized to attack the Nsukka police division where the operatives were taken into custody, but got the information that the men had already been taken to the command headquarters.
Commissioner of police, Abuabar Lawal assured that a full-scale investigation would be conducted into the case while advising residents to remain law-abiding and avoid acts capable of breaching public peace in the area.
