Saraki Describes APC Governors’ Recent Visit To Wike As A Futile Exercise
By Adeleye Kunle
Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has described three All Progressives Congress (APC) governors’ recent visit to Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike as a futile exercise, Track News reports.
Governors Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti, Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo, and Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos were reportedly in Port Harcourt, Rivers state capital, on Friday to woo the disgruntled Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governor to the ruling party.
Senator Saraki, however, stated that the visit would be futile and that the PDP would not allow Governor Wike to go.
Saraki spoke with reporters in the Kwara state capital on Friday night.
“Governor Wike is an important member of our party, and I am confident that we will sit down and address all of the issues in the near future,” he said.
There is no doubt that he has reason to feel this way, but there are better ways to resolve issues like this.
“The good news is that we’re all talking to each other. We have control of the situation, and the PDP will re-unite and move forward with the next elections.
“I assure you that PDP will definitely resolve its current family issue.” The fact that some APC governors went to see their colleague in an attempt to capitalize on what they believe is an issue is a huge mistake. “At the end of the day, the visit is pointless.” The APC Governors understand that they must latch onto this type of crack. Fortunately, we will not give him (Wike) to them because the upcoming election is too important.
“The fates of millions of Nigerians are far too important, far larger than any party or individual.” That is something I appreciate, as are all of our stakeholders, and Governor Wike himself.”
The ex-Kwara Governor blamed the current university union strike on the Federal Government’s insensitivity.
“There is no way I will be part of government as Senate President, and ASUU and other university unions will go on strike for months,” Saraki said.
“It’s a lack of compassion and commitment.” The government should lock itself in a room and not come out until the issue is resolved. And I’ve never seen such dedication. I’m not sure if you’ve seen it.
“That is the difference between the PDP government and the one we now have.” It could not have happened under the administrations of Presidents Obasanjo, Yar’Adua, and Jonathan.”
